An international aid agency says hundreds of thousands of Somali refugees are living in camps that are “barely fit for humans.”

Oxfam said Thursday the camps in Somalia, Kenya and Ethiopia are overcrowded and badly managed.

Somalia has been ravaged by violence and anarchy since warlords overthrew dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991, then turned on each other. Somalia’s civil war has raged for the past 18 years, sending hundreds of thousands of refugees across the borders.

The most recent fighting has been between Islamist insurgents and the Somali government.
